Working Paper up

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 [updated November 21, 2009]

I've produced a working paper, which has been put up on the website of the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research. NCEEER is the organization which sponsored my research last year in Russia and the Republic of Georgia.

Delegates to the second "All-Russian Muslim Congress" in St. Petersburg, 1906

Usually, organizations which ask grantees to write something after their grant period ends simply want people to discuss the details of their research—which archives they worked in, what they learned, etc. NCEEER is a little different in that they ask for an actual piece of research to add to their Toumanoff Virtual Library

Anyway, my working paper is entitled "Division and Alliance: Mass Politics within Muslim Communities after 1905." In it I discuss some of the features of the infighting which characterized Muslim community leadership politics after the Russian Revolution of 1905. It's still not really as polished as I'd like it to be (it is, after all, a "working paper"), but I think it does give a pretty good indication of the sorts of things I'm interested in and the kinds of materials I work with.
