The weather has been really great in Bozeman lately. It's been warm (in the 60s and 70s), sunny and gorgeous.
Having grown up in the midwest, one of the things I like most about the weather out here is the clear weather. Michigan is so overcast, especially in winter. It's really depressing. If the cold weather doesn't make you feel rotten, going days on end without seeing the sun will.
For me, sunny weather in wintertime was a revelation. I had never really realized, until my first winter in Montreal in 1988, that you could have sun and snow at the same time. I mean, I'd seen it at some of the places where I'd gone skiing with my parents, but had sort of filed those memories away as vacations and therefore not real.
In Bozeman the skies are often solidly blue in both summer and winter. It's really stunning, especially in the wintertime when the mountains are covered with snow.
Anyway, I took out my camera a few days ago in the late afternoon and took a number of shots with my new camera. They came out pretty decently, but then again the subject matter lends itself well to photography.
This is the morning view from the front porch of the Borderlands Lodge. It's really pretty when the sun is rising.
Montana Hall—the oldest building on campus
Bozeman is world-famous for its stopsign-less intersections
This is maybe my favorite picture of the bunch—I think the pink is beautiful. And, wouldn't you know it? I shot this one on Rasheed Wallace Avenue!
This one's okay, but a bit blurry. Kind of wintry looking, don't you think?
This is the bike path that I take from downtown back to the north side of town. Do you see the snow on the mountain in the distance? It's now melted—the weather has gotten warmer in the past couple of days.
Another bike path shot. It's getting a bit late, though—towards 8 pm maybe
I like this photo a lot, too—this is basically the main drag on campus. The minaret-like tower to the right is Montana Hall, which is in one of the earlier photos. I live just to the west of campus, in the direction of the setting sun. Probably sometime after 8 pm.
Anyway, I've taken numerous photographs since these, so I'll probably be posting more soon. Indeed, on Sunday afternoon I took an incredible bike ride, with camera—the weather is so incredibly warm, bright, and beautiful!
