Taksim Square and environs were sealed off with fences (not my picture) yesterday in order to prevent a march commemorating International Women's Day.

My local tostçu scoffed when I told him the news, asking, rhetorically, what the danger would be in allowing it to proceed.

I agreed with him in principle, but resisted the urge to tell him how the February Revolution got started. I just took my karaşık and went home.
